February is one of the best months of the year to ski Whistler. The base is usually at its deepest, the lifts go back to their normal 8:30 a.m. start in mid-February, and outside of one big long weekend, it is one of the easiest months of the winter to find a great place to stay. The weekend to plan around in 2027 is Saturday, February 13 to Monday, February 15, because BC Family Day and U.S. Presidents' Day land on the same Monday.
Here is what I would want to know before booking a February trip.
What is the snow like in Whistler in February?
Short answer: less new snow than January, but the best coverage of the year.
Tourism Whistler publishes monthly snowfall on the mountain going back to the 2003/04 season. Across those 23 Februaries, the average works out to about 136 cm. That is lower than December, January and March, which each average a little over 2 metres. But February is consistent: 20 of those 23 Februaries brought at least a metre of new snow. The low was 47 cm (2004/05) and the high was 259 cm (2010/11). Last February brought 148 cm.
The real story is what that snow lands on. Environment Canada's climate normals for the Whistler valley station show February with the deepest average snow depth of any month (60 cm, and that is down in the valley, not up top). By February you are skiing on everything that fell in December and January, so most of the mountain is filled in.
Temperatures are friendly too. Tourism Whistler lists February valley highs around 2°C and lows around minus 2°C, with an average of about minus 3°C at the Roundhouse. Cold enough to keep the snow good, not so cold that you hate life on the chair.
Powder days still happen. If you get one, read my take on joining your friends in the lift line on a powder day before you try it.
Family Day and Presidents' Day 2027: one big weekend
In 2027 both holidays fall on Monday, February 15:
BC Family Day is the third Monday of February, a provincial stat holiday.
Presidents' Day (officially Washington's Birthday) is the third Monday of February in the U.S.
Seattle Public Schools are off for mid-winter break from February 15 to 19, 2027, so expect some Washington families to stretch it into a full week.
Valentine's Day is Sunday, February 14, right in the middle of it.
Whistler Blackcomb is clearly expecting a crowd. The cheaper "No Holiday Access" Day Pass and Epic Day Pass products are restricted on February 13 and 14, 2027. If you are coming that weekend, buy the pass that includes peak days, or pick different days.
Good news for that week: Whistler Blackcomb says it plans to return lifts to their traditional operating hours for the Family Day and Presidents' Day period, and Snow School goes back to its usual lesson times once the 8:30 a.m. opening is back in mid-February.
Professional hat on, if you are coming for the long weekend:
Book early. It is the busiest weekend of the month, on the hill and in the Village.
Book lessons, rentals and dinner ahead. This is the weekend where "we will just walk in" stops working.
Get up early. First chair beats a mid-morning lift line every time.
Look at Family Day deals in January. Tourism Whistler runs a Family Day page with local offers. Last year that included discounts on cross-country skiing and snowshoeing at Lost Lake and Whistler Olympic Park. It says the 2027 offers will be posted in January.
The smart weeks: early and late February
Skier hat on: if you are not tied to school holidays, skip the long weekend and come either side of it.
February 1 to 12: deep base, quieter weekdays, and Lunar New Year lands on Saturday, February 6 if you are celebrating with family.
February 21 to 28: the long weekend crowds and the Seattle school week have gone home, the lifts are back on normal hours, and the days are getting longer.
Sunday to Thursday stays: midweek is quieter on the hill in any month, and February is no exception.
February is the quietest month in our winter calendar, which means you still get a real choice of homes. Our Marketplace Lodge homes have the free shuttle out front and a short walk to the Village Gondola. Glacier's Reach puts you right in the Village. On the Benchlands, The Aspens and Painted Cliff sit close to Blackcomb's base, and in Creekside, Lake Placid Lodge is steps from the Creekside Gondola. Some of our homes have private hot tubs, and after a day of February skiing that is not a small thing.
February events worth knowing
Fire & Ice Show: free, every Sunday night from January to March at 7:30 p.m. in Skier's Plaza at the base of the Whistler and Excalibur Gondolas. Skiers and riders jump through a ring of fire and it ends with fireworks. That gives you February 7, 14, 21 and 28 in 2027 (weather and snow permitting).
Peak to Valley Race: the longest giant slalom race in the world, with co-ed teams of four racing from the Whistler Saddle down to Dusty's in Creekside. It usually runs over the last weekend of February (February 27 and 28 in 2026). Great to watch from the bottom with a drink in hand.
The 2010 Olympic anniversary: the Vancouver 2010 Games opened in February, and Whistler still wears it proudly. Whistler Olympic Park in the Callaghan is worth a day off the lifts for Nordic skiing or snowshoeing. My Whistler 2010 story has the backstory.
Après and dinner: my Where to Eat in Whistler post and our eat and drink guide are a good start. Book ahead for Valentine's weekend.
Getting here in February
Winter tires (M+S or the mountain and snowflake symbol) are required on the Sea to Sky Highway from October 1 to March 31, so if you are renting a car at YVR, confirm it has them. Check DriveBC before you leave. Once you are here, you do not need a car. My opening day guide has the full rundown on shuttles from YVR and Vancouver and the free Village shuttles.
